World Challenge Expeditions In-country Agent
VIETNAM AGENT
World Challenge Expeditions (WCE) is a British company that specialises in providing leadership, teamwork and personal development training for young people through taking part in expeditions around the world.
We are looking to recruit an in-country Agent to provide on the ground operational support in Vietnam for our Team Challenge programme.
The Team Challenge programme runs for 2 years. During the programme British and Australian school teams (consisting of 10 to 20 students aged between 15 and 18 years) plan and raise the funds for their expedition. The programme culminates with the team running their own 4 week expedition between the months of June and August, supported by a school teacher and a qualified WCE Leader. Australian teams generally run expeditions in November and December. Throughout the 4 weeks the team will trek and undertake project work with local communities with some time spent on recreation activities of their choice at the end.
With the support of the Vietnam Expedition Programme Manager in UK Head office, your key responsibilities will include:
• To assist with the research and planning of expedition itineraries;
• To find and assess new areas for trekking;
• To develop and maintain links with schools, government departments, aid agencies and NGOs to establish suitable projects;
• To be available 24 hours as the main point of contact to deal with any problems that might arise whilst the teams are in country from June to August and November and December each year;
• To liaise with key local individuals and agencies including the British and Australian Embassies;
• To advise on safety and carry out risk assessments.
WCE treks and projects in Vietnam are currently fairly limited to certain areas, but potential for expansion is huge. The new in-country agent will therefore need to have a keen interest in setting up new projects and treks in areas of Vietnam currently not explored by Team Challenge teams.
This will be a part time post with a financial remuneration on a per head basis (approx. $3500 given the numbers for 2006, plus expenses for specified work carried out on WCE’s behalf).
Good knowledge of Vietnam, an interest in the environment and experience of working with young people are essential, and previous trekking or expedition experience would be highly advantageous. It is preferred that applicant are fluent in English and competent in Vietnamese.
